Family Learning Center

Policies
Non-Discrimination Policy

Family Learning Center, a Christian Early Education Program, admits children of any race, gender, and national ethic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to children at the school. The Family Learning Center is licensed to accept ambulatory children only. The administration reserves the right to dismiss or refuse admission to anyone unwilling to comply with the school's regulations or behavioral standards.

Admission Policy

Authorization for admission to Family Learning Center, a Christian Early Education Program, is made by the Director when each child is determined to be:

  1. From 18 months through six years of age
  2. Socially, emotionally, and physically mature
  3. There is a 30-day probation period for parents and the preschool to determine if the child is able to benefit from the program.
  4. When classes are filled, the parent(s) may request to be placed ona waiting list. As vacancies occur, they will be filled from that list.
Enrollment Forms

For your child's safety, and to comply with state regulations, all enrollment papers must be completed and on file BEFORE your child can attend Family Learning Center. You have 30 days to complete and turn in the physicians report.

Attendance

Please notify the Director if your child will be absent on a scheduled day of attendance. We ask this for two reasons: (1) we are concerned about you and your child, and (2) in order to maintain a quality program and proper staffing.

Children may only attend on days they are scheduled. We request this for maintaining proper staff to child ratios.

Withdrawal

If you are planning to withdraw your child from preschool, a written notice at least two weeks in advance must be given. Parents who fail to provide the two weeks notice will be responsible for two weeks’ tuition fees.

Holidays

We are closed for major holidays, and one week for teacher in-service each year.

California Immunization Requirements

The California School Immunization Law requires that children be up-to-date on their immunizations to attend school or childcare centers. Because childhood diseases, like measles, can spread quickly, children need to be protected BEFORE they enter. Most children need booster immunizations before entering kindergarten.

When you register your child for Preschool, YOU WILL NEED AN IMMUNIZATION RECORD. It must show the date (month, day, and year) your child received each dose of the required immunizations. The Preschool will not admit your child unless you have an Immunization Record with you. If you do not have an Immunization Record, or your child has not received all the required immunizations, contact your doctor or local health department immediately to arrange an appointment.

Check your child's Immunization Record to make sure you have a full date for each vaccine dose required.

Medications

If a child needs medication to be given at school, the parent MUST sign the medication form each day the medication should be administered. Only prescription medications will be administered unless the doctor recommends otherwise. We do not administer Tylenol or the likeness there of unless prescribed by the doctor with a note.

Medication will be administered only if it is in its original container and has been signed in on the medication form. Prescription medicine that will be given longer than two weeks requires a physician's signature on the Medicine Release Form.

Injury

An Illness/Accident Report shall be completed for any accident occurring at the Preschool. The report shall be made as soon as possible following the accident. The original report will be sent home with the parent and a copy will be retained in the child's file.

  • A Permission for Emergency Medical Care Form is REQUIRED at registration.
  • The Preschool will give appropriate first aid to an injured child with minor cuts and bruises.
  • If the injury is an emergency, 911 will be called to the Preschool and the parents contacted.
Arrival and Departure

Upon arriving to the school, parents must sign in their child. When picking up their child, they must sign the child out. If someone other than the parent is going to pick up your child, his or her name must be on file in the office and that person must be at least 18 years of age. We will need written authorization if they are not on the list. The Teacher or Director will check the child's folder for identification comparison. Your child will not be released if we have no authorization. Your child is very precious to us. These rules are here to protect your child and to insure their safety.

Food

The children are provided a nutritious breakfast, lunch and two snacks (mid-morning and midafternoon) each day. Breakfast will be served from 7:15 -7:35AM for those who arrive early in the morning. All of our menus are prepared to meet the daily nutritional requirements for preschoolers. Menus are posted and handed out on a monthly basis. P lease check with the Director before bringing food into the Preschool. Arrangements can be made to bring in food for children with special dietary needs.

Birthdays

Your child may celebrate their birthday at school with a small celebration of cupcakes, cookies, and ice cream. Arrangements must be made with your child's teacher or the Director as to the date and time.

Sharing

A child is permitted to bring one toy on Fridays for share day. It is necessary to exclude valuable or fragile toys, mouth toys, guns, or knives. Books that your child enjoys are acceptable anytime. We cannot replace lost or broken toys.

Nap Time

After lunch, a nap period is provided for all children. Parents will need to furnish a small blanket with the child's name clearly marked on it. The blanket will be left here all week. On Fridays these items need to be taken home for laundering (or your child's last day for that week).

Clothing

All clothing must be marked with your child's name on it. Roomy, washable play clothes will be the best for school. There needs to be a change of clothing in a back pack, kept on the child's hook at all times. Please include underwear, socks, pants or shorts, shirt and/or dress (if possible please include an old pair of tennis shoes). We don’t encourage Super Hero play or the emulation of movie stars, TV stars or rock stars, and we ask that no T-shirts with Super Heroes or other media stars (He-man, Smurfs, Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Tele Tubbies, Star Wars, or Harry Potter) be worn.
